It’s September 1st. It’s Halloween. I don’t make the rules.

Be mean to your characters.
What they take for granted? Take it away from them.
The one thing they know for certain? Make them doubt it.
Their worst fear? Throw it at their damn faces.
Make their plans fail. Make them cry. Make them question things and fuck up and then learn about them and the way they react in the process.
Be mean to your characters. Then be kind to them for a little while, because after all that stuff they may deserve it.
Stop creating rec lists with no author information
Stop reblogging rec lists with no author informationFanfiction doesn’t get written in a fucking void. An author spent days or weeks or months or literally fucking years slaving over those words. They deserve the fucking credit publicly when someone talks about their fic. I don’t give a shit if the information is there when someone clicks through to the fic. If you’re writing a rec list show enough fucking respect for the time the author put in to include their fucking name. If you don’t have time to add their names you don’t have time to write a rec list.
STOP EXCLUDING AUTHOR NAMES WHEN YOU WRITE REC LISTS. STOP SUPPORTING THIS STUPID-ASS PRACTICE BY REBLOGGING REC LISTS THAT DON’T LIST THE AUTHOR.
Look, if you agree with this, please reblog to signal boost. It took concerted effort from artists over the course of years to make any impact on the practice of reblogging unsourced artwork. It’s time for authors to do this same. This practice is ridiculous and has to stop.
I don’t think that people realize that when writers beg for comments it isn’t because we want our egos stroked it’s because we FEEL SO LONELY AND JUST WANT TO TALK
like if i wrote that thing I’ve been THINKING about that thing for a long time and been all locked up about it inside of my brain by myself please come and talk to me aBOUT IT?
SO MUCH THIS
Yesssss this! Also because it’s feedback! If someone comments on something specific in a chapter, it must have stuck out to them in either a good or a bad way and that’s something I want to know.
Not that there’s anything wrong with a little ego-stroking, either.
