Yeah I mean I won’t read MCD. I might read cheating – I have before, and liked some and not liked others – and I’m writing at least two stories that involve infidelity- but some people are really uncomfortable with it so better to err on the side of tagging and explaining.

Yeah, I mean, I usually don’t read MCD or infidelity either, but if there is an explanation in author’s notes I’ll be more willing to give it a chance.

I’m just trying to cover my own butt, really. All the characters in this work screw up – some I would argue are worse than others and I almost think there’s something worse than infidelity going on in the fic. But, I can’t control what’s going to turn readers off. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is. That’s the risk you take when you write things where characters screw up.

I’d agree. I’d add, it might be different if they talk about stuff with their partner first. Like “hun I’m getting coffee with my new friend and I wanted to warn you I’ve got a little bit of a crush on them but I still.love you.” A convo like that would shift the lines for me, and imo healthy couples communicate about stuff like that.

That’s also a good point. And definitely something real life couples should talk about if/when that situations arises.

I think what I’m going to have to do is use the tag and put an author’s note begging my readers to trust me. The situation this arises in is something I’m not supposed to discuss yet but there are very good reasons as to why no one in the story talks about what’s going on. I guess I’m just going to have to hope that people aren’t put off by the tag and are willing to give me a chance.

@majesticduxk replied to your post “Okay. Fic questions – What kind of behavior warrants a…”

any fic where the other party believes they have one sort of relationship, and the other steps outside of that, knowing what their partner thinks. Oh, and the intent of the straying party. Coffee with a new person you like, not cheating. Coffee with a new person that you like with the intent of seeing if it goes somewhere, cheating. (I don’t read cheating/infidelity fic, so I can’t say if this is standard or not)

Okay, so what I’m getting is that even if the intention was not to overstep the bounds of the relationship if Character A does without discussing it with Character B it’s cheating.

Like, if going to get coffee with new person results in a kiss, even if the intention was just to see the person and Character A and C get caught up in it, that’s infidelity.

I’m asking because I want to make sure I cover my ass here. I don’t wanna write something and post it and leave a tag out.

Omg femslash… *grabbie hands* you know what I really want to see? A good genderbend Destiel. Holy crap. But i know not a lot of people are into that. So I’d be perfectly happy with Jody/Donna. Sorry word vomit in your ask lol

lol. No worries. I don’t usually do genderbending stuff. I’m more comfortable with doing trans MtF or FtM or genderqueer characters. If you’re into that, I am trying to finish a DCJ fic with genderfluid!Cas.

But I’m definitely down to do some Jody/Donna. I have a few things I’m doing this month, but if you’re interested, I’ll put it on my list for next month? (I do the rare ships challenge every month or almost every month so I can put them on my tag list/to do list for June.) I’ll make sure to tag you in it?

I keep seeing posts around I wish there was more femslash/rare pair/this particular thing

You know the way to get that? Comment on what’s already there. You want more of those two awesome ladies who would just have the hottest sex ever? Rave at the authors writing that! Want more of those two guys who were in one episode but different episodes? If there’s something already written, go and comment on it! What about that particular kink that just gets your engines going Every. Damn. Time. There’s already some written? Have you let the authors know you loved it?

The way to get the fic that you want, is to appreciate what there already is. For authors who dabble in things that aren’t the fandom OTPs, the radio silence can be enough to stop you trying that again.

@unforth-ninawaters wait…. YOU feel like a hack? No. No freaking way! You’re one of the best writers in the whole fandom!
I mean, it kinda makes me feel better to know I’m not alone in this but you are DEFINITELY not a hack.

(*hugs*)

Dude. Duuuuude. I constantly feel like a hack, and I can’t even read the words “one of the best writers in the whole fandom” without scoffing cause, what, me? nuh uh absolutely no way.

But that’s kinda the point – I know objectively I’m a decent writer, and a fairly popular one I think. Our brains are fucking liars. Don’t worry about your friends reading your stuff. Heck, even if they don’t like it – it’s happened to me, I’ve written stories that afterwards someone I’ve grown close to in fandom has been like “so um I actually didn’t like that one much” – you still won’t lose your friends over it, and something else you write, that person will adore and someone else will maybe like a bit less.

So keep writing, and keep believing in yourself, and keep trusting your friends. You got this. 😉 ❤

Thank you 🙂 I needed to hear that.

Objectively, I know that even if my friends don’t like what I write they’re not gonna like me less. (I have friends who don’t like a few of the things I ship or write anyway) but I always have that little nagging in the back of my head that goes “they’re going to think less of you for this”.

But you’re right. My brain is a liar. I just gotta keep writing and doin’ what I do. 🙂
