Little-known downsides of immortality:

  • Tearing your favourite article of clothing and discovering that it’s
    irreplaceable because the technique of its manufacture has been lost

  • Realising you’ve thought of the perfect comeback to someone who’s been dead for three hundred years
  • Not being able to eat your favourite dish anymore because the source of some critical ingredient has gone extinct
  • Having strong opinions about sports that are no longer played

  • Getting a song from the 13th Century stuck in your head and being unable to get it out because you don’t remember how it ends and you’re the only person on Earth who knows it
  • Having that perfect pun you’ve been waiting forever for a chance to use stop working due to linguistic drift

I just discovered foodtimeline.org, which is exactly what it sounds like: centuries worth of information about FOOD.  If you are writing something historical and you want a starting point for figuring out what people should be eating, this might be a good place?

Something Rotten!

omg a musical song about COMPLAINING ABOUT WRITING

My whole life I have been waiting for this. MY WHOLE LIFE.

OH MY WORD

YES.

@tinydadman

I REBLOG THIS EVERY SINGLE TIME IT COMES ON MY DASH AN I HAVE LOVED IT EVERY TIME

@queenof-starwars-and-otherthings @cooliogirl101 @blackkatmagic @shanatical @goaskalice137

@lovelylangst @taylor-tut @blueplanettrash this is accurate

This is so accurate that it actually hurts me.

Oh my fucking Chuck

Tagging all the writers i can remember right now

@starsinursa @reallyelegantsharkfish @jhoomwrites @silvie111 @sactownbrowns3 @rosemoonweaver @suckerfordeansfreckles I know I know more but dnddmfjfkcnvivoanaja

Can I change the topic? (scrunching up face) I had wanted to ask about how you choose what and who to paint. (the rad choice of lipstick colours, or the eyeliners, or the glowing fairies) They fit well and make a fascinating image, but I’m not very familiar with these actors and actresses so I don’t really understand. Is it just whatever that takes your fancy? (I feel like you’ve made a post about this…)

You don’t have to know them. They’re all self-portraits.

Think of them as OCs and it will make more sense, I think.

Or maybe it won’t? I’m still learning how to convey what I want with my art. If it’s not being conveyed, I need to adapt my message.

… self portraits of other people is one I’m going to stare at the wall for a while and process because it does make sense but now I get to chew over ye olde “artist as presenter/point of view” topic and how many different layers of fingerprints there are in art.

Weren’t you talking about, for who you pick, that you’re looking at the places society isn’t highlighting right now?

Canon characters as self inserts in fanfiction is totally a thing, too.

I didn’t need to stare at the wall more

Though this is less “more” than “still” because @rosemoonweaver and I can’t stop talking about the mechanics of character resonance and how that interplays with fandom splits and subgroupings and why people ship things…

I’m so glad now that I’ve heard an artist say this b/c I thought it was an actor/writer thing.

I am every character I’ve written and they are me. They live inside my skin for a little while, they use me to tell their stories. I pick them, or maybe they pick me, because we have something in common that needs to be expressed. It’s all a self-insert. All of it. Everytime.

So Rose, What Did You Do This Year?

Lemme tell you what I did this year. (In terms of writing, of course.) I wound up writing 29 new fics and reaching 194,929 words on Ao3 which is pretty nice if you ask me. Writing Tracking Spreadsheet for 2018

tryslora:

It’s that time of year again! I am sharing the updated (and I hope bug free) blank spreadsheet to track your words for 2018. We’ll begin with the link, so that those who know how to use it and just want to grab and run can get it.

Writing Tracking Blank Sheet for 2018

This is an Excel spreadsheet shared via Google Drive. Feel free to grab a copy, work with it wherever, modify as you wish. All I ask is if you modify and redistribute it, please credit back to me as the original source. I’ve been really loving seeing some of the modifications people have made, and this year I’ve incorporated a few things that I liked back into my version!

Some screenshots of new features and how to use it are behind a Keep Reading cut, to keep your dashes neat and clean.
