You write like Agatha Christie – I Write Like

So I saw @gertiecraign (who I swore I was following but apparently not and that’s just absurd. Don’t worry I’ve rectified the situation.) doing this and I honestly just had to. It was too tempting.

I put six different fics into this little baby and I got the same author nearly every time. They were all recent fics, too, so I guess that’s just my style these days. I’m taking it as a compliment, considering she’s one of the best selling novelists of all time.

Interesting note, the only time I got a different author was when I put in an excerpt from a fanfic that was from the perspective of a five-year-old and it told me I write like Anne Rice. I will say in Rice’s defense (and that’s the only time I’ll ever use the phrase) she does have a gothic style and a recent comenter on that very fic said it had a gothic feel to it. So that’s probably why.

Observations:

My first sentences tend to amount to “named character does a thing” which I think is probably a good way to introduce who and what we’re getting into. Fics with a lighter tone tend to have shorter beginning sentences. I hope these are all decent enough hooks that my readers would want to read more, because that’s always my aim. I guess I’m not as much of a fan of starting with dialogue as I once was because only two of these begin with spoken words.

Top 5 Fan Fics (That I Personally Have Written)

Alright, fair’s fair. I started it so I guess I gotta.

1. Some Things Last (E, Cas/Dean/Jimmy, 61,706 words)
This is my absolute favorite thing I’ve ever written. It’s so close to my heart because it’s the first time I really allowed characters to make mistakes I’d usually punish them to hell and back for but instead I allowed them to be happy. It means a lot to me and I worked really hard on it.
2. Forget-Me-Not (T, Cas/Meg, 3,966 words)
This was because I wanted to write something that dealt with grief and I was still mad that Meg’s death hasn’t been acknowledged. Because I love Meg and I love Megstiel. It’s short but it’s one of my favorite fics. (AND I SWEAR this has a happy ending.)
3. Four Can Play At That Game (E, Cas/Dean/Jimmy/Sam, 5,422 words)
This is all @samanddeaninpanties fault because she sent me a gif and it got waaay out of hand. This was one fic I had a blast writing, though, and sometimes I even go back and read it because it amuses me so much.
4. Angel Lust (E, Jimmy/Sam, 2,582 words)
I would strongly suggest heeding the tags here. It’s… definitely not something I usually do. It’s a fic within my serial killer ‘verse, Peacemaker, and it’s an odd mix of dark comedy and twisted straight up murder. It was a lot of fun to write though, in an odd way. I really enjoy the ‘verse especially because our four mains are horrible, horrible people. (And the whole reason for it is a very subtle, mostly for myself, dig at certain very dumb arguments about shipping and necrophilia…)
5. The First Loves of Dean Winchester (M, Dean/OMCs, Dean/OFCs, Dean/Robin, 1,866 words)
I really liked this little fic thingy I wrote b/c I felt like writing it. There’s really no rhyme or reason to it, it’s just four vignettes about the first times Dean kisses and has sex with women and men. I was fun and a nice chance for me to just play around a bit. No pressure, but fun.

Funny Fanfic Challenge

I was tagged by @mayalaen with the following challenge:
“So someone asked me what lines I wrote in a fanfic that still make ME laugh. I thought that was a great question, and I want to pose it to all the writers out there.”

So here are some lines that really make me laugh.

Jimmy, Jemma, and Cas

Jemma rolled her eyes and snorted into the microphone. “Bitch, you want a song you get your ass up here and sing it yourself. Do I look like a trained parrot to you? Wait, don’t answer that.”

Tbh, everything that Jemma says makes me laugh, because drag queen!Jimmy is the best.

Stuck in a Snowglobe

“You gonna pull that stick out of your ass and start us a fire?”

So, Dean and Ketch are stuck in a snowglobe because magic and this was something Dean said when he was being pissy.

Passive-Aggressive Undertaking

Meg sighed, leaning over the desk and picking up one of the shiny purple cut outs. “He sent you dicks.” She chortled.

“Yup.”

“He sent you glittery purple dicks.”

AND

Shortly after the funeral home opened at seven in the morning and all the employees were in their places, Dean sprinted across the parking lot, licked the suction cup, and stuck it to the leather seat of Ketch’s bike.

Two for this fic because these make me laugh a lot. So does the harmonica thing but I’ll leave that for other people to read.

You Can’t Say That

“I’m a like this literally all the time,” Dean said.

“Loud.”

“No, no, it’s a state of being.”

“Horny.”

“What? No! That’s not – ”

“But you are,” Michael said.

Again, so much of this fic makes me laugh. The whole thing is about a game of Taboo, so it just kinda has to be fun, right?
