Wincest is Totes Evul because….

There’s a height difference and everyone knows that height differences are bad because… reasons.
Age gap! Like four whole years worth of an age gap! Age gaps are inherently problematic!
They’ve both died a whole shit load of times and everyone knows that when a person dies and their spirit leaves their body it’s necrophilia.
Power imbalance! Dean was Sam’s caretaker for a time growing up so that means, despite the fact Sam’s a grown ass man who moved away, has mad his own choices, and literally held the devil at bay, Dean will always have power over him.
They yell at each other a lot when they fight 😦 and good relationships never involve yelling ever.
They’ve punched each other a lot and possession isn’t a valid excuse for beating up on people. They should’ve tried harder to not be possessed.

Another height difference! So bad! He’s too tall. He would crush her!
Ten year age gaps are even worse than four year age gaps! She was a toddler when he was a teenager. Is that the foundation of a good relationship? I think not!
Rey shot first. She tried to kill him 😦 And then later she slashed his face open and that’s totally abusive guys. Fighting in a life or death situation aside, that’s bad. Rey wouldn’t make a good girlfriend.
He’s a super mega evil Machiavellian evil guy and she’s a precious uwu cinnamon roll so it would never work out.
Rey’s always yelling at Kylo and calling him names. Good relationship don’t ever involve yelling for any reason.
He’s king of the galaxy and she’s a former scavenger so their class difference means they’ve got a power imbalance. Everyone knows rich guy/poor girl romances are NOT A THING.

Oh man I legit never shut up about sastiel, so that makes sense!! Alternate canon is SO FUN. There’s so much that can be done with canon divergent/alternate canon. I think my wincest bb counts as alternate canon but I’m not sure???

I think it does. Like, imo, alternate canon is different from canon divergent in that something is changed enough that it’s set in the same universe but can barely be traced back to canon, if that makes sense? Like, your WBB is alternate canon because things diverge so early in canon that it would be a completely different experience. The story you’re telling isn’t just diverging from canon so certain characters never died or characters can get together, it’s a whole new ball game. And I think those are a lot of fun.

I think complex characters are too difficult to simply stick in one house. Just like people. We see what we want to see and block out the rest. But I agree – from what I’ve seen? Totally a Gryffindor.

Yup. It’s much easier to go by the whole “brave, smart, evil, miscellaneous” groupings when you have less complex characters. I tend to approach it like I do any other AU: what are the most important traits of these characters? What do I think they would hold onto as core parts of their personalities regardless of what universe they show up in? What do they value the most? So of course my interpretations are going to be different from everyone else’s because what I think is the “core” of these characters will be different from what someone else thinks is the “core” of the characters.

That being said:
Rey’s a Gryffindor. Brave, reckless, good heart, would fight you behind a Denny’s? Gryffindor.

@annacaffeina is definitely right. Sometimes I’m very particular and fussy about it because I’m convinced I’m right and everyone else is wrong, dangit. Very Ravenclaw of me lol.

Choose one – unpopular opinion about ships or shippers?

Sometime shippers need to just shhhhh a little bit.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when shippers like to pretend that their ships are objectively better by some constantly changing standard. It’s obnoxious. Canon-ness doesn’t make something better. The absence of “problematic” stuff doesn’t make something better. The gender, race, or sexual orientation of the characters involved does not make something better. Of course you can like one ship and despise another for your own reasons, but that’s all subjective stuff.

I kind of really hate the thread of “my ship is better than your ship because yours is *bad* and mine is *good*” because it’s so subjective. If you gave me any ship I could probably come up with at least five reasons it’s “””problematic””” by tumblr standards. It’s really not that hard. (Actually that might be a fun game.) But it’s all subjective and ridiculous when the very nature of fandom is to be transformative. It’s kind of like going up to a painter and being like “this canvas is blank therefore you’re a terrible artist. no, you can’t just paint over it and make something new the canvas was blank originally! and you use too much blue!”

Also, I do get that shippers love talking about their ships, (I know, I do it myself a whole buttload) but sometimes you just wanna… talk about things without having to also talk about the ships involved. I get that this is a social media and people can and will talk about whatever the hell they want, when they want to, but it can get a little irritating at times. Of course, I realize that the only person I can control is myself so when I get annoyed I just walk away. It’s not worth it to upset other people who are just having fun. I’ll make my own post (with blackjack and hookers) instead.

1) depends on the writer. I technically have 4 but I’m only working on 2 of them. 2) why not ot3??????

I think technically I have three, too, but I’m only working on two at the moment. Plus the series I’m kind of sort of working on when I want. I’ve got the energy and drive to do it right now but I know myself and I worry I might lose steam… but it’s supposed to be a fun hobby right? I’m not supposed to stress myself out about it.

Also, the consensus so far is yes OT3, so… looks like I’ll be doing that! 🙂

Reylo Modern AU

Rey’s life had never been perfect, but she’d always been an optimist. That is, of course, until she has the shittiest week to ever be a shit week. Her fiance dumps her and runs off to France, the stray cat she took in shreds her couch and the curtains, her landlord informs her that she’s got 30 days to get a new place to live, AND she lost her job. Basically, she’s ready to crawl in a hole and never come out.

So that’s exactly what she intends to do, getting absolutely shit faced in a bar she’s never been to, whining about her life to a stranger she’s sure she’ll never see again. Until she wakes up with a hangover (and one less shoe) on his couch. In the harsh light of day he’s not much like the supportive ear he was when she was wasted. He’s rude, arrogant, and temperamental, and good god is he stuck up! But when his life takes a turn for the worse and he’s left alone… well call Rey a sucker but she can’t help but want to be there for this dude who doesn’t even have any friends.

Life may not be a fairytale, and prince charming might be an asshole, but maybe there’s something to be said about bonding through how crappy real life can actually be.
