what’s a ship you like that most people don’t?

Hmmmm….

Don’t like as in just don’t like or actively hate? ‘Cause I’m sure I’ve got a buttload of ships people don’t like or haven’t bothered with and several that are actively hated.

I guess if we’re talking most people just not liking I really like both Dean/Ketch and Ketch/Mary. I definitely like both but they’re tiny little ships. It’s like seven people shipping one or the other, probably.

Thanks!

7 & 10

7) when asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
Enthusiastic. Honestly, I’d rather tell people I’m a writer than tell them I’m a student. It’s kind of what I do.

10) write in silence or with background noise? with people or alone?
I need noise. If it’s too quiet I get creeped out. Usually, I have music on or the television in the background because it’s easier for me to focus with noise. I can write anywhere tbh. If people are too loud then it gets distracting but once I’m in the zone I can write and tune them out. Coffee shops, libraries, my living room, it doesn’t matter. I’ll write where I have the chance to.

Thanks!

looking at your follower halloween fic thingy and there are 3 i want to claim – i don’t know if i’ll have time to write them or not but i’m highly interested. the question i have is – what do you mean by claim? do you mean that if i pick a number, nobody else can do that number too? (and if i DID have time, could i do more than one)

I’m kinda playing it by ear at the moment. I’m kind of limiting the number of people to a prompt to two because that’s pretty typical of challenges and I’m not sure what the interest level will wind up being. I don’t mind seeing the same prompt written with different ships/genres/by different authors. I think it’s kinda fun. I haven’t run into that issue yet, though.

There hasn’t been a ton of interest in it yet but I wouldn’t have a problem if you or anyone else did two fics, just as long as whoever does want to do two finishes and posts one prompt before trying telling me they want another one.

And, if by some strange miracle I wound up with 40 people doing the challenge with all the prompts claimed twice and more people who want to do the challenge, I’ll just let them pick whatever they want. It’s not a competition, really. It’s a celebration of fic.

Sorry if my word choice was confusing. I hope that answers your question.

18 and 19!

18) were there any works you read that affected you so much that it influenced your writing style? what were they?
I try to not let fic influence my writing style but I know it has. I can’t say for sure which fics have really pushed me into certain tropes or styles more than others, but I think after reading so much of it I have definitely picked up ways of doing things. I can’t name any specific fics but I’m pretty sure comparisons can be drawn. (If anyone does have comparisons, I’d be happy to hear them, though.)

19) when it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?
I don’t think I’ve written anything really complicated but for me, I think keeping bullet point notes is easiest. Once I know where I’m going/what I’m doing, I divide the work into chapters, then bullet what I want for each chapter. I like to let characters develop as they go though, so I don’t really worry too much about that. I’m very much a “go with the flow” writer so I don’t try to outline very much. It overwhelms me and takes the fun out of it.

Thanks!

20 + 21!

 20) do you write in long sit-down sessions or in little spurts?
Long sit-downs. My writing sessions tend to turn into marathons. I am a bit extreme so with me, it’s either the famine or the feast. I either write nothing at all or I’ve been working for so long I’m close to fainting because my blood sugar is too low.

21) what do you think when you read over your older work?
I’m actually not that hard on past!me. Past!me made plenty of mistakes but it’s never actually that bad. I’ll notice things I could have done better or things I wish I’d thought of at the time but for the most part, I’m not usually embarrassed or ashamed. Sure, if I read the stuff I wrote in like middle school I’d cringe a bit but the important thing is that that little writer tried. I tried. And I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her cliches and missteps and failures. So, thanks, past!me! Thanks for trying and getting better and writing your little heart out!

Thanks!

1 & 5?

I just answered #1 and the answer was yes and several fics lol.

5) character you were most surprised to end up writing
I don’t know if any of them really surprised me to be honest but I know I’d be really surprised to know this is where I wound up if anyone told me I’d be writing what I am now about two years ago. It’s not a bad thing, but I never pictured myself writing fanfic much less the kinda of fanfic I write. It’s been liberating, to be honest. I’ve become a lot more secure in myself and my ability to not be a miserable shit 24/7 because of fic. So I guess, in a way, I’m surprised to be writing all the characters I am.

Thanks!

17 & 23 pls :)

17) if you could give your fledgling author self any advice, what would it be?
Trust your own damn instincts, kid. I used to listen to everyone else when it came to my writing and boy did I suffer for it. I was good but my writing lacked heart and I was always unhappy with it in the end.

23) any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?
Well, for one, I was a terrible speller as a kid so I had to learn to describe things if I wanted to write stories. My imagination was way ahead of my vocabulary and spelling skills, but it kinda worked out.
Also, I have a strange knack for accidentally wandering into situations where people are having public sex. That’s definitely found it’s way into my writing.

Thanks!

1,3,4 and 9 for the get to know the author

1) is there a story you’re holding off on writing for some reason?
Oh god, are there ever. I’m so behind on writing things and I have approximately a million things I need to do so I haven’t written some of the things on my back burner.
I have one serial killer AU I want to do, a DCJ idea I’m saving for the big bang, and an original fiction thing I want to do but my lack of motivation and time is a bitch.

3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
I usually write front to back. Sometimes when I’m stuck I jump around but most of the time I try to be linear. It’s tough, but that’s what I feel like I should do most of the time.

4) favorite character you’ve written
Dean. Totally Dean. Jimmy’s a close second though.

9) what, if anything, do you do for inspiration?
It depends. Sometimes I just talk to people and throw ideas around in an attempt to get something flowing. Sometimes music helps. Music is usually my go-to for tough scenes though.

Thanks!

haha! this thing is making the rounds now! first me, then deadlyangelkay, then jhoom and now you! how about 15 and 16?

15) why did you start writing?
As cheesy as it sounds, I started writing because I had stories to tell and I wouldn’t be happy until I wrote them. I’ve always wanted to write even before I actually could, so it was just natural. It’s like it’s in my blood.

16) are there any characters who haunt you?
Haunt me as in they won’t leave me alone? Sure. If the character really wants their story told them won’t leave me alone until I write something. It’s a little annoying but easily fixable.

Thanks!
