Writing Behind the Scenes is designed for writers to talk about the details of how they write. Writers have many ways they go about their work, and a compelling case can be made for most any method of world-building, drafting, revising, editing, etc.
How does this work?
Send us an ask with your writing-related question and our group of experienced authors will answer with what works for them.
Anything I shouldn’t ask?
1. Questions about very specific situations will not be answered. There are too many variables involved and without knowing you personally it’s very difficult to give good advice.
2. Research for your fic. The point of this is to talk about general writing mechanics so that you can put them into practice across all your work.
3. Questions that require our authors to delve deeper into their personal lives than they’d like. That line is different for everyone, so this is up to the discretion of each of our authors.
If you aren’t sure, go ahead and send the ask, but if it meets one of these criteria I’ll send it back to you privately with a note. – @tellthenight
How often will you post this Q&A?
Depends on how many questions we’re asked. Right now we’re planning to post once a week on Fridays, but we’ll consider posting more frequently if we get a lot of asks.
What if I have a lot of questions?
We would appreciate it if you send in one question per ask. Send as many asks as you want!

What is it? A creations challenge (which includes fics, art, vidding, giffing, and any other form of art used for fan creations) just for the Rare Ships (“rare” is anything that isn’t the two main ships). So come and show your love for the ships that never get enough!
What is this month’s theme? This marks the 12th round of RSCC! Which makes it sorta it’s 1 year birthday!! So, this month’s theme is birthday related prompts!You can expect stuff like cake, streamers, presents, etc. As always, you’re welcome to interpret the prompt as you see fit. Special thanks to @jerksarehot for helping me come up with the theme for this month!
How do we sign up? – Sign ups are open until July 31st! – Please reblog this post. – Please make sure your ‘submit’ page is turned on or I will not be able to send the prompt. – Send an ask to the page telling me your choice for ship. (I am allowing you to sign up for up to 3 ships, however this will give you 3 prompts, so please be sure you can complete all of them if you choose to sign up for more than one!) – You can follow the page, but it’s not required.
What happens when we sign up? – In early August, I will be sending you a submission with your prompt and your partner. (Note: I will be a little late sending these out, I will be traveling until the 1st or 2nd so you may not get your prompts until about the 4th – please be patient with me!) – Remember this is not a collaboration challenge – the partners are simply to get a few different takes on the same prompt! – You have until August 30th to create your art piece based on this prompt. – When you post it, be sure to tag #spnrareshipcc, your partner’s url, and your ship in the first five tags, or I won’t see it! (Please tag NSFW if you have any nsfw material). – Please also make sure to list any warnings and tags using something similar to the suggested format on the blog page. – I will reblog your creation to the challenge page for everyone to enjoy!
