If I sat down and was really motivated, I could do thar in 3 hrs tops. I know professional writers who only write for 4 hrs a day. When they edit, they only edit for 4 hrs a day. Now, granted, none of these people are millionaires and most of them are married so their spouses bring home enough that they don’t have to worry about making a massive amount. (Most pro authors don’t make a whole lot, honestly.) Still, this is their career. The most productive writer I know publishes one book a year. A book that’s between 80 and 90k. I know fan fic writers who double that in a year. I know writers who write 3 or 4 hours a day.
Like, okay, fan fic isn’t professional writing. It doesn’t go through the same editing process or publication and these aren’t our characters. Still, if we decide to charge for a fic via commission, I don’t see why we charge so little for it. We don’t need to make Stephen King money (though it would be nice) but we should give ourselves a little more credit than we do now, imo.
