Three flowers means three things! lol

The first girl I was ever actually interested in was named Cassie. She had brown hair that she bleached streaks into and a bitchin’ spider tattoo. She knew I was into her, too, but I was too chickenshit to do anything about it. I was sixteen. If I could do it all over again I would’ve taken her up on her offer when she asked me if I’d ever kissed a girl. She was a bad girl, too. Sometimes I wonder what she’s up to now and if she’s doing okay.

I’m terrified of both space and the ocean but I’m a little obsessed with both. There’s just something about vast open spaces that don’t care about the existence of humanity, that have been here long before and will be long after us that I find both terrifying and comforting.

I started watching Supernatural when my father was in an accident and had to spend months in the hospital. It was the best way for me to escape the reality I was stuck in and it helped immensely.

Send me flowers, I’ll tell you whatever I want.

I hear you… I mean… I really hope that the people reading my genderqueer exploration of betas in a/b/o understand that the end goal is… genderqueer. But…. well you can lead a horse to water.

I feel so bad because I’ve been wanting a fic like that for ages and I just haven’t started it yet. I’ve been in such a whirlwind lately. Ugh. I’m bumping that up to top priority on my to-read list.
But yeah, you’d think. I’d thought that was obvious from like… the title and premise alone but you never know, I guess. Have you been getting grief about that? Or having to explain it in the comments?
My mother likes to say “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him tie his shoes” and that kind of perfectly encapsulates how some people completely miss the point imo.

What the actual….?? Lady. No. Those are mutually exclusive. No no no no no

She’s a TERF. Logic doesn’t apply to TERFs because they’re stuck on this stupid ass view where they don’t believe trans folks are an actual thing. We’re either 1) evil men trying to horn in on women only spaces 2) confused lesbians 3) non existent attention seekers who never experience “real dysphoria” (tell that to my phantom penis, lady).
Some of these individuals have decided that if identification as trans is all you need to be trans they can all themselves trans (regardless of whether or not that makes any fucking sense or how insensitive and insulting it is) and then shriek about you being a transphobe. Because that makes sense! (I’m not getting into their understanding of identification or being trans because they don’t understand and frankly it makes me want to vomit.)
Next time you see a post on tumblr that’s complaining about men, be wary if they use the word “male” instead of “men” or if they refer to men as “creatures” or any other dehumanizing terms. 90% of the time they’ll be either TERFs, radfems of a different flavor, or something close to it.

Fanfic asks! #5, and also #8-13 (since they’re all basically the same yes-or-no question). ^__^

5. What’s a crackship you love?

Because I have a giant pile of these, I’m gonna say Bela/Balthazar for this one. They could get into all kinds of trouble together.

8. Bed sharing or roommates AU?

Bed sharing, but especially if the person who wakes up first has a freak-out about it and falls out of bed.

9. Fake dating or arranged marriage?

Fake dating is great because of all the pining, but arranged marriages are great b/c of the whole “learning to love this stranger” thing (and the fact that arranged marriages are usually found in fantasy and nobility AUs and I love those).

But I think I’ll go with fake dating, because I love the way that fake dating is always like “I’m in love with them and maybe this will be my only chance to know what it would be like”.

10. Mutual pining or enemies to friends to lovers?

Enemies to friends to loves. Hands down one of my favorite tropes.

11. Kid fic or childhood friends?

If it’s done well and the characters feel like children I like kid fic better. But I’m super picky about it.

12. Friends with benefits or secret dating?

Friends with Benefits. Secret dating is fun and all but friends with benefits is better.

13. Exes or established relationship?

This one depends. Established relationships work if there’s the possibility for polyamory to happen but if it’s just two people I’d rather have exes. I like the possibility of second chances.

Thanks!

Wild thought (I have those at stupid o’clock in the morning) but fic writers who commission fics for like $5 per 1k words are waaaaay under charging. That’s half a cent per word. That’s not even close to the semi-pro rate for writing in most places.

There was a post going around a while back about the old habit (more or less defunct now, at least on Ao3) of putting massive disclaimers ahead of your fic that you weren’t trying to make money off anyone else’s copyrighted stuff, you were just writing for fun, please don’t sue. All I’m saying is if Anne Rice’s lawyers ever got wind of people writing fic for commission they would be on that shit like flies on velcro.

That’s not to say I don’t agree with you: artists should be paid fairly for their work no matter what they create and that pretty much never happens. (Musicians playing gigs for “exposure” is another good example. And don’t get me started on trying to make money off knitting.) I’m just glad that the world has come far enough that we can even have this discussion with regards to fan works.

Oh yeah. I have heard of the Anne Rice (and other authors) thing. Messy to say the least.

I definitely get the legal issues with anyone selling or making money off unofficial fan products, but I personally feel that if fan artists can make money and people who create unlicensed merchandise are “okay” within fandom, fan writers ought to be, too. Realistically, it’s all dubious to say the least. None of own the names or rights to these characters and we are all subject to the whims of the copyright holders. It’s just odd to me that buying a print from a fan artist or a necklace or a phone case is cool but commissioning fan fic is somehow “more illegal”. It’s not, but fandom seems to think so.

And perhaps it’s because copyright holders haven’t gone after fan artists they way they have fan writers? Who knows. I’m just glad the tides are turning honestly.

Unpopular opinion: You don’t have to believe your ship is canon, ever will be canon, is endgame, or in any way deliberate on the part of the show runners to believe in it or enjoy it wholeheartedly. It’s ok to acknowledge when you are deliberately reading the show this way because it makes it more enjoyable for you. There is no shame in this. This is a completely valid way to enrich your media and fandom experience.

strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree

I want this tattooed on me.

Seriously, I don’t know when or why people started insisting that a ship has to be canon, will be canon, or deliberate to be worthy of enjoyment but I wish it would stop, frankly. You can love a ship where two characters are or aren’t written romantically and you can love ships where characters have literally never met in canon. Hell, one of my favorite ships in this fandom has a character that was essentially invented by the fandom! It’s all fun and worthwhile.

If you’ll allow me to wax poetic for a minute, I personally think there’s a lot of value in admitting when you’re looking at the show through a specific lens. Like, if you’re being analytical and looking at it through a more “literary” perspective you can and should be aware of the lens you’re looking through when discussing certain tropes, themes, and elements. Like, you could legitimately look at SPN through the lens of modern American gothic (esp the first 3 season) and if your analysis starts to wind up a little….Fall of the House of Usher-y (I wonder how obscure a reference that’s gonna be) and it makes people a little uncomfortable with the implications… well that’s a valid reading. A reading that emphasizes destiel isn’t better or more correct than a reading that says everyone on SPN is doomed Greek-tragedy style. Basically, I really think the text can lend itself to all kinds of discussions about which characters fulfill which tropes in different genres (and I would adore getting into these conversations with people. Seriously. Give them to me any day of the week).

I mean, generally, if you’re looking for destiel subtext you will find it. Same with sastiel or wincest or wincestiel or whatever. And there isn’t any shame in admitting you’re looking for it. There isn’t any shame in acknowledging it, either. What there is a bit of shame in, imo is giving people shit for reading things through that specific lens or claiming that your interpretation is the only right one.

Okay, mini rant over! I agree. There is no shame in using ships to enjoy a show and there is no shame in admitting you’re only interested for certain ships.
