âIâm
sorry, but thereâs no smoking in the restaurant.âBalthazar looks absolutely
scandalized. âExcuse me?ââWeâve got a no smoking policy,â
the server says as he drops off their drinks. âSo no cigarettes.ââWeâre outside,â
Balthazar protests. âWeâre on the patio.âThe server stares down at
Balthazar, looking less and less impressed with him as the conversation went
on. âStill drinking our drinks and eating our food, arenât you?â He doesnât
wait for Balthazar to respond. âSo still the restaurant, ainât it? Put out the
cigarette, or leave.âBalthazar appraises the man in
front of him as he puts out the cigarette. âIf I were to ask to speak with your
managerâŠ?ââThen Iâd be happy to inform you
that I am the manager. And the co-owner.â His expression softens
a little. âLook, we got guests who come in with allergies and stuff. As someone
with a cat allergy, I totally get the not breathing thing. We try to make it as
comfortable as possible for everyone. So no smoking.âNow Balthazarâs interest is
piqued. âYou serve at your own restaurant? How⊠plebian of you.ââThatâs
what you got out of everything I said?â The man shakes his head and stares at
Cas, whoâs quietly been smirking at the whole exchange. âHonestly, Cas, where
you get these guys?ââCas?â Balthazar repeats
suspiciously.âBalthazar is an old friend from
college. Heâs something of a culinary snob, and I knew only your burgers would
do.â He gestures between the two men. âBalthazar, this is Dean. Dean,
Balthazar.ââAwesome.â Dean winks at Cas
before turning back to Balthazar. âGuess if Cas is vouching for you, you canât
be half bad. Iâll be back with your burgers in a bit.âAs soon as heâs out of earshot,
Balthazar rounds on Cas. âI canât believe you took me to a restaurant just so
you could flirt with the hot owner.âCas blushes. âI didnâtâthatâs not
whyâââOh, hush.â Balthazar rolls his
eyes. Cas has always been so damned obvious about this sort of thing. He
remembers Cas drunkenly crying to him about that Daphne girl after (badly)
flirting with her at a party. Of course when heâd sobered up, heâd been too
embarrassed to ever talk about it again and had avoided Daphne like the plague.
âClearly you need my help. The poor manâs as into you as you are him, and you
two are such idiots neitherâs made the first move.ââDean doesnâtâhe-he wouldnâtââ
Cas swallows thickly. âYou really think heâs interested?âSeconds later, Dean drops off
their burgers. âFarmerâs Market for you,â he says as he sets down Balthazarâs
meal. âAnd Honey Mustard Delight for the angel,â he says as he places Casâ
burger down.Cas digs in and Balthazar wants
to smack him for being so oblivious. âSeriously? Was that not clear?ââWhat?â
âHe called you angel.
That, Cassie, is a flirtation if I ever saw one.ââNo it wasnât. Heâs just being friendly.â
Even Cas looks like he doesnât quite believe it.âEither you ask that man for his
number, or Iâll do it for you. We are not leaving here until you do it.âBalthazar continues to glare at
Cas menacingly whenever Dean stops by their table to check on them, but Cas
remains frustratingly quiet. Honestly, Balthazar doesnât know how much more
pitiful longing he can take before he goes stabs himself with his butter knife.
That would have to be less painful than watching these two bumble
through a courtship. When Dean comes to pick up the
check, Balthazar shoots Cas a warning look. Cas tries to ignore him, so he
kicks Cas under the table.I hate you, Cas mouths before turning to Dean.
âDean, are you busy this evening?â
âHuh? Oh, I donât think so.
Bennyâs cominâ in to take over the night shift, so I wonât be working if thatâs
what youâre asking. Why, whatâs up?ââWould you be interested in
maybe⊠going out for dinner? With me, I mean, if that wasnât clearââ Another
kick stops his babbling and forces a somewhat pained smile.âOn a date?â Dean asks slowly.
âYes?â
Dean smiles brightly. âSure
thing, Cas. You mind swinging by the restaurant around five? If weâre going out
on a date, I wanna show off you off in my Baby.âBalthazarâs head whips around at
that, but Cas seems to understand whatever the hell that
means, so he doesnât say anything.âI can do that. Five oâclock
then.ââAwesome. I look forward to it.â
âMe too, Dean.â
