“Henry don’t- Please don’t lick the peaches.” Castiel pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed as Henry’s tongue came out and licked not one but three peaches out on display. Drool was everywhere and there was no way he could pretend his son hadn’t just done that. “Guess we’re buying peaches now,” he muttered under his breath, grabbing the now slightly wet fruits his five year old had slobbered over.
“What are we going to do with peaches?” Charlie asked. His seven year old was standing on the edge of the shopping cart, limbs sprawled out along the metal sides to keep herself from falling as Castiel weaved through the aisles.
“I have no idea,” he sighed. “Maybe we’ll bake a pie for Daddy. It’d be a nice present for him when he gets back from his trip.”
Not that Castiel was feeling particularly charitable towards his spouse at the moment. Dean was on his annual roadtrip with his brother, a Winchester bonding tradition that they’d done since Dean had first learned how to drive. It was sweet that the brothers kept it up all these years later… except this was the first year that Castiel had not two children to look after by himself, but three.
Junior hiccuped in his sleep and cuddled closer to Castiel. The five month old was dwarfed by the baby carrier strapped to Castiel’s chest and looked far too adorable. Freckles dotted his cheeks and long eyelashes made him look just like his missing father, and Castiel smiled despite himself.
Henry and Charlie were normally easy to manage, but with Junior attached to him, there was only so much he could do to chase after Henry as he darted back and forth to grab junk food.
“Can we get this?” he asked as he held up a bag of kettle corn. He threw it over his sister’s head before waiting for an answer.
“Can we get these?” he asked as he held up a jar of Nutella. That too joined the growing pile of groceries.
“Oh oh oh! We have to get these!” Henry held up a set of orange and black candles, each shaped like jack-o-lanterns.
“Where did you even find those?” Castiel asked. “It’s June.”
“I dunno. But they’re cool! Can I have them Papa, can I can I can I-?”
“Yes, just please stop.” Charlie giggled but helped Henry put the candles in the shopping cart. “At least find grab us some vegetables so I can pretend I was a responsible parent today? Charlie, go help your brother.”
They came back a few minutes later with an eggplant, three carrots, and a bag of onions.
“… We’re apparently eating junk food and a vegetable stir fry for dinner,” Castiel grumbled as the kids proudly put their spoilers in the cart. He was exhausted and not willing to fight them on their less than stellar shopping selections. They had food, so he was calling it a win.
“As soon as your father gets back, I’m disappearing for a weekend and treating myself to a spa day.”
While experimenting with magic when he was a kid, Sam accidentally cursed Dean. Now, Dean is forced to wear a spelled amulet constantly, or he’ll turn into a random animal. For a little over a decade, he’s learned to live with the curse, and has even found it useful in some cases, but he sure would be happier without it.
When he meets a witch named Castiel, he’s offered a deal. Instead of assuming all witches are bad, Dean can spend a season getting to know him. If at the end of the season, Dean still thinks he’s evil Castiel will send him away with his memory wiped of the whole experience. But if he learns that Castiel is not the monster Dean assumes he is, he’ll lift Dean’s curse.
It’s an offer Dean can’t bring himself to pass up.
If you don’t think Dean Winchester would accidentally woo Cas by singing 80s love ballads in completely over the top and hammy ways…I just don’t know what to tell you.
@casbakespie i have long maintained the opinion that the reason they don’t have cas in t-shirts on the show is because dean’s hetereosexuality, such as it is, is barely hanging on as is. if dean were in the same room as cas in a t-shirt and tight fitting jeans… well, there’d be a lot of explaining to do why dean’s drooling over him so much
If Cas were in tight jeans and a t-shirt in front of Dean he damn sure wouldn’t be for very long.
@wingsandimpalas
Gods, yes.
It’s desperate and it’s terrible but it’s what they both need. They need that connection, that tiny little semblance of normal. It’s always a little too rough and they both wind up with bruises and scratches but it’s as close to comfort as they’re able to have. When everything is lost, at least they have each other, if only for moments at a time.
And Dean hates it. He hates himself and the world and Cas and everyone else, just because life’s not fair and it only ever hets worse. Cas is too drugged up to feel most things and Dean can’t blame him so he mostly ignores it. Still, there’s moments in between where it almost feels okay. Almost. But those moments never last and they’re both lost again.
