like, it was so well done, the badass “i’m doing what needs to be done” attitude, the fact that he carries around his daughter’s teddy bear but is absolutely terrifying when he needs to be (the camera on his face during the weasel interrogation?? i’m just… HOO boy scaredandhorny.gif) and how PERFECTLY he meshes with deadpool, the eventual comraderie, his constant exasperation that just slightly seems like admiration by the end, the smile when he says “jesus” and shakes his head at wade

i just… i shouldn’t be surprised after they did such justice to wade’s character from the jump (it’s like they just plucked him out of the comics and dropped him on the big screen ffs) but i was! i was super surprised and ELATED for it! i really wasn’t expecting them to pull off the cablepool relationship so well on screen but they DID IT

A Small List of Things I Loved about Deadpool 2

  • So first, the Vanessa thing. I actually was super upset about this at first. I was worried they’d shat the bed and decided to go back on all the shit that made Deadpool great (mainly awareness of comics and tropes and reversal of those tropes). But honestly, it was probably one of the best portrayals of loss and grief in a comic book movie. The revenge plot takes up maybe five minutes and then it moves on to actual grief and moving on. I appreciated that so much. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t love that they did it but I’m glad it wasn’t the whole fucking plot. 
  • And also about Vanessa, I was reminded of Deadpool and Lady Death. When he died the first time I thought that’s where they were going and while it’s not the same it feels similar and makes sense. I feel like that makes it better in a way.
  • “He was abused. You can tell. You can always tell.” That hit home a little too much. But thank you Wade for always standing up for kids.
  • Speaking of – queer coding. I dont mean the whole “oh they *might* be queer” I mean that the real villains of this movie are essentially religious bigots forcing conversion therapy on mutant kids. Wade calls out the X-Men as a metaphor for racism in the 60s and while he’s right, they’re also a metaphor for queer folks on the 2000s and that’s really apparent in this film. (Even to the point that the orphanage workers are referred to as child predators.)
  • Domino is so great. She literally just nopes right out of a fight at one point. I adore her.
  • Also the rest of the X-Men just nope out of this movie all together.
  • “Who are you?” “I’m Batman”
  • “Can it, Thanos.”
  • This movie is gorey as shit and I’m here for it. I winced so much.
  • So many cameos. Also, poor Bill Skarsgard.
  • Deadpool is really trying to land himself a boyfriend in this and I’m here. For. It.It’s nice to see him flirt with dudes. 
  • Cable and Deadpool. I ship it. I ship it hard. The banter is so on point. And like… Nate. Dude. There was no need for chapstick. What are you doing? Dude!
  • Okay but this movie is funny as shit too. Obviously. But I laughed so much.
  • The chorus singing “holy shitballs” during the final fight.
  • Take On Me being really beautiful, actually. I cried.
  • Colossus gets to say fuck.
  • Name dropping Hope Summers. And related, like why is Deadpool 2 a better X-Men movie than all X-Men movies?
  • The end credits scenes.

Hi! Just as a warning, if any of you all plan to see Deadpool, there are some pretty heavy suicide themes to the film. They are NOT treated as a joke in any manner, in fact it’s taken (for a Deadpool film) quite seriously, but I wanted to warn you all in advance that there is a scene in which a character attempts suicide and makes references throughout the film about wanting to die. I do think the movie is very much worth seeing, but I wanted to share because this matter is quite upsetting and triggering to many and I thought a warning was in order.
