Like, on one hand: the feedback is wonderful. I thrive on it. On the other: the audience is sooooo much smaller. Especially if your rare pair/threesome didn’t really exist yet.

Yeah. I just don’t know though. It’s like… I get that there isn’t much of an audience to be found in rare pairs, I do, but like… I feel like I have to beg for attention half the time and that feels really icky. I dunno. If I wanted to write and get basically no reaction to it I would have kept trying to publish in magazines.
I know I’m just complaining but it’s just not any fun when four of the most recent things I’ve written have a grand total of 13 kudos combined.

Yup that’s the Regency AU. …and…yeah I guess I have I dunno I don’t know what to do with myself if I don’t write just I just…write…I’m almost up to 1.8 millions words posted on AO3 in just over two years oh god what is my life. 😉

lol. It’s just ingrained in you to be a writer, I suppose. And holy shit, 1.8 million words? Dude! What?!

1,783,000 words.

It’s something to do I guess…

Maybe 7 years ago, a friend (who is a professional author with maybe a dozen books published by major publishing houses under her belt, but who was just getting started when we met) told me that if I wanted to be a writer I had to keep at it and I should assume that the first million words would be crap but I should just keep at it.

And that’s what I did. I wrote 800,000 words, give or take, before I ever shared anything publicly…An Assembly Such As This is actually the project that, by my estimate, broke my 1 million word mark. And SINCE then I’ve written about 1.5 million more…

Holy shit dude.

I am in awe.

Also: so when Ruby was revealed as evil I felt so vindicated, but then a few months later I watched S4 again with some friends who hadn’t seen it and it was torture. “Ya know I’m kinda starting to like this Cas guy.” (me: YES I LOVE HIM HE’S AMAZING but I say nothing) “…oh, no, he’s against them now, never mind.” (NOOOOOO CAAAAAAAASSSSSS). “Look, look at all the great stuff Ruby did for them! I’m really starting to trust her!” (in my head: FUCKING BITCH)

lol. See, it’s so funny because I don’t think there was ever a point I didn’t like Cas. He just showed up awesome and I was in love. Even when he “went against them” I was like…so he’s either been brainwashed or he’s got a damn good reason. When Ruby originally showed up and was like “here’s this awesome knife and I’ll teach you to fix the colt” I was like… huh, I like you. But when she was all “hey, Sam, let’s kill this innocent woman because there’s a demon in her and you need lots of blood to kill Lilith” I was like… yeah, my decision to stop liking you was valid.

Lol. I was pretty much the same way. I adored Cas’s entrance and I really wanted him to stick around. I actually shipped Megstiel before I started shipping Destiel b/c I didn’t “see” it until season 8.

I dragged my brother into watching it with me. He was actually kinda uninterested after the season 3 finale. I begged him to watch just one more episode and after that he was hooked. Its adorable, too, because he has the biggest crush on Misha. He used to get really excited whenever Misha’s name was in the credits.

Also I think Ruby is the one I most often see variation in…some people I think didn’t like Gen Ruby as much…

I’ll be honest, I liked Kate better than Gen. I have nothing against Gen, I just liked Kate’s portrayal a little better. But I’m still picturing Gen when I write Ruby so…

It’s tough for me because tbh I loathe Ruby – in, I’d say, exactly the way the writers wanted us to loathe Ruby. From the minute her character first appeared I consistently screamed “DON’T TRUST HER OMG” every single damn time she was on-screen.

Now, keeping in mind also that I had like three months where the only Ruby whose existence I knew of was Kate!Ruby, I definitely originally liked Kate!Ruby better. There was a certain something to her behavior, and I thought Gen’s acting was stilted and inconsistent. But, over the years, especially as S4 grew on me and grew to be my favorite season of the show, I think I just…kinda…got used to Gen!Ruby? And now Kate!Ruby always seems a little off to me?

So, like, objectively speaking (well, subjectively but somewhat more objectively, just based on my initial reactions) I think Kate did a better job of being Ruby but I still kinda prefer Gen Ruby.

(obvs this is all my opinion ya’ll like who ya like)

You know, I think that pretty accurately sums up my feelings, too. I went into spn knowing that there were two brothers and an angel and that was basically it so when I watched the whole thing up to whatever season was on I was pretty fresh to the whole thing. I didn’t know there were other Megs or Rubys or even archangels so all of that was a surprise to me. That being said I do think Gen!Ruby was way more stilted and I liked Kate!Ruby much better. Didn’t like the original Meg, though. But I still tend to think of Gen when I write and it’s probably because I got used to her. I still prefer Kate!Ruby and watch season 3 makes me miss her.

Also, I actually fell for Ruby’s tricks up to a certain point. The second she started coaxing Sam into drinking blood I distrusted her, but I was willing to believe she could be decent. Jokes on me, I guess. That’s also why I distrusted Benny at first. I was so sure he was going to wind up being bad (because I’d been burned by Ruby before) so I felt like an idiot.
