Fan Writer Tropes

So I was responding to comments today and I said something like “70% of my fics contain forced bedsharing” and I got to thinking… what other things do I do so often that they become calling cards for me? If people were to play a drinking game with my fics, what would they take a shot for? So I decided this would be a fun game to play with my fellow authors!

Rules: You gotta list your own fan author tropes and then tag your writing buddies so they can do the same. Defend yourself as much or as little as you want to. Call yourself out and encourage your friends to do the same!

These are just some of the things I do a whole freaking lot in fanfic 

  • Forced Bedsharing feat. Waking Up And Immediately Making it Awkward
  • Mental Illness (GAD specifically but others are known to appear) 
  • Car Accidents
  • Grieving
  • Daddy Issues
  • Polyamorous Side Relationships
  • Everyone Is Sassy
  • Someone Gets Puked On (it’s almost always the same character and almost always his shoes) 
  • Dream Sequence
  • Gratuitous Descriptions of or Comparisons to Bodies of Water
  • There Will Be Bisexuals
  • Epiphanies/Revelations Under the Stars

lol. Yeah, just with the sass alone you’ll be drunk. Maybe just chug for five seconds before you read the fic and that’ll count. 

I think Learning Curve has the least number of things on this list, though. You might just get a nice buzz 😛

*shrug* If you’re apprehensive give Dean a different mental illness/issue to struggle with. Because… Yeah. People don’t become serial killers if they’re stable, ya know? It’s generally a mixture of nature and nurture.

Yeah, it’s true. 

This may be a controversial statement, but I don’t believe anyone is just evil, you know? People choose to do awful things for a wide range of reasons and often times some of those reasons are undiagnosed/untreated/incorrectly treated mental disorders. Obviously, not everyone who struggles with mental illness will do bad things… duh… but some do. I feel like, with this AU specifically, Dean would have to have some form of delusion probably with religious overtones, in order to do what he does. If I did, no matter what issue I choose for Dean, I would do the best I possibly could to be accurate. But therein lies the issue for me; I don’t know if I should. It’s a bit of a moral issue. The things that Cas, Jimmy, and Sam struggle with in the series are noticeable but not in your face the way all my ideas about Dean would be. I don’t know if that makes it better or worse, but that’s the reality of it. 

I dunno. It’s something I’ve been struggling with for a while.

Still headcanoning the puking is a secret kink 😉 joking aside, thanks for dragging me into this awesome trope. I vote you work it into peacemaker somehow. Heh.

😛 The kink isn’t the puking, the kink is the situational humor of me repeatedly throwing this gross and uncomfortable situation on the same character in multiple different works.  

But it’s fun right? In a weird way it’s just fun. 

Also, I should but I need to figure out how to do that. Serial killers don’t exactly have weak constitutions.

lol. The struggle is real, isn’t it? Sometimes you just look at a guy and you’re like, he’s so hot and I wish I could just bite him. And then you’re like, no wait, I’d rather look like him so that pretty guys will want to bite me. NO WAIT I want both of those things at the same time. 

I honestly wish there was a way that I could pull off looking more boyish without surgery or hormones. Right now I tend to use make-up and different tricks to make my shape look different. Sometimes I can pull if off but I’m like “i still really wanna wear eyeliner and lipstick, though.” because I don’t look like a guy wearing make-up, I look like a girl in a hoodie. One of these days I’ll figure out the perfect combination, though. Then it’s all over for everyone because I will look awesome and all the boys will trip over themselves around me lol.

Zuko is amazing. He’s one of my favorite characters and I love the show even more now that I can analyze it.
I hate love triangles too. I only like them if they end in polyamory or if person B and C forget about person A and leave them behind and get together. What’s your thoughts on that?
I can definitely see the lack of appeal for coffee shop AUs. They aren’t my thing either

Oh, yeah. I think the show just gets better the older you get b/c now you can actually look at it and see how it works and why it works! I think that’s a lot of fun.
I feel like a love triangle where persons B and C get together could be fun a couple of times (esp if person A was being a jerk the whole time) but I still kinda prefer polyamory. lol. BUT it’s a fun twist!
