*hugs* I’m sorry that happened. It’s hard to be positive and someone ruining it always sucks, especially when it was something that’s harmless or could be easily fixed

*hugs* thanks. It’s so frustrating. I just need to try not to let it get to me but it’s very irritating.

OOOH! Agatha Christie! Ok, that’s a very cool one. And yeah…it’s crazy interesting how whatever this algorithm is designed to pick up on, it changes based on certain characters and such. Like…does our style change that much between character POV’s? Also, that whole thing about you not following me…dude, you are adorable! That made me smile, BIG. Thank you. *smooch*

Yeah, I wonder what the algorithm is picking up on, too. Probably word choice and tone words and sentence length (or at least I would think that’s what it’d pick up on.) I know I try to change it up when I write different characters PoVs, because writing Sam is nothing like writing Cas, you know? But it’s interesting that it all got lumped into the same author for me. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

Also thank you 😀

i already get your ao3 notifications 😀 but its a good idea! I tag people here too if they’ve asked to be, but i’v emoved on from doing individual posts (unless requested) and more on compilations posts

Makes sense! I’m trying to get on something of a normal schedule with posting things so at least it’s not so sporadic. So far I’ve been having decent results.

o.O that book (and class) sound fascinating. i’m by no means a civil war buff, but i am insanely curious to find out more about it, y’know?

Oh definitely. If you want I can see if I can dig out some book recs for you? Obviously it’s not gonna get into all the little things that make the war so interesting but there were actually a few factors that went into the whole thing. Like, it’s both too simplistic and also very accurate to say it was a war fought over slavery because while Southern landholders were absolutely enraged about the potential to not be able to expand slavery further into the West, Northerners by and large still wanted to compromise. There was still this attempt to balance the wants of two different wealthy classes but no one could maintain it. Something had to give and well… the South was the first to snap. The war itself was brutal and nasty. Human rights violations up the wazoo on all sides. Racism. Surgery in a time where surgery was still dangerous as hell in places that weren’t sanitary. And the Reconstruction of the South was pathetic and absolutely part of the reason we *still* have issues in the South today. (And not just race problems, either. Poor whites were still poor and racist and beholden to wealthy whites. Former slaves got fucked over into sharecropping and the cycle of poverty that created. The infrastructure was pitiful. Andrew Johnson was an awful president. Sprinkle in some of the Gilded Age economic boom and practices that benefited the North and West while leaving the South in the dust… well it’s not hard to see why we have issues.)

Sorry, I went on a bit of a ramble lol. But the American Civil War and it’s consequences are some of my favorite things to look at in American history.

Heh heh. Hard.
Because, let’s face it, no matter what camp you sit in, sexy stuff is awkward, weird, sticky, hilarious and kinda gross when you really think about it objectively. Working out how to make who puts what where, how when and why actually sound, not just sexy, but serious is “hard.” Especially when you often don’t have a lot of dialogue like in a regular scene.

Heh. I’m so glad someone went for the joke.

No but seriously, it’s a pain! I remember one author saying that writing sex scenes are like writing fights scenes and honestly they’re both difficult for many of the same reasons. You can’t just be all “X puts Y there and then Z does A” on and on without making it boring as shit but you also gotta let everyone know *where* the characters are in position to one another. And once you add more than two people it really becomes a mess. It’s this balance of movement, feeling, sound, thoughts, and tension that all need to hit just right or else it doesn’t work.

Yeah. It’s hard.

Exactly. I struggle with it too. Sometimes I almost bullet point the basic actions: “x puts y there ” for the entire scene. Dry and boring as fuck. But then I go back through and add dialogue, thoughts feelings and movements. I might do it a number of times until it works.

It is difficult, but as another person said, it’s a draw for readers.

I’ve made the decision to leave the smut out of my current fic entirely…(There will be timestamps!)

Yeah, going back and editing really does help because sometimes you just can’t help writing in bullet points, especially when you’re writing a first draft.

I’ve left smut out of fics before just because I really didn’t feel like writing it and didn’t feel it fit. And I didn’t even bother to write timestamps. It sucks that it’s a draw for readers but I’m okay with losing out on some of them because I don’t feel like writing it.

That’s a good stance to take! I need to stop worrying about getting readers and concentrate on actually writing the best story I can. Although knowing me, those Timestamps will probably end up being a bloody 50k sequel, but…if that’s where it’s going then that’s where it’s going I guess. As you said, if it doesn’t fit, then there’s no point shoehorning it in.

You gotta write for yourself. I mean, this is supposed to be fun afterall. We’re not getting paid to do it so you might as well indulge yourself. And if you wanna write 50k sequels go for it.
