17 : Do you make soundtracks for each story?

Oh yes! Most of my longer works have playlists that I spend a little too much time picking out and arranging.

28 : On a scale of 1-10, how much do you stress about choosing character names?

Uh… 2. In fanfic it’s easy because they already have names and I don’t have to worry about it. In original fic the characters just kinda show up with names attached. I’m not the kind of person who gets overly sentimental about what my characters are called.

Thanks!

8 : What author would you be most excited to be compared to?

Oh, boy, I don’t know. I’ve had people compare me to dead pretentious white dude authors before (and they meant it as a compliment) and that was a little scaring lol. I wouldn’t mind being compared to Li-Young Lee or Louis Simpson because I want my fiction to be poetic and I love both of their styles.

10 : Do you brain-storm story ideas alone or with others?

Depends. If it’s an idea I know one of my friends would enjoy talking about or I get stuck somewhere I’ll brainstorm with other folks but if no one else is interested I’ll figure it out on my own.

23 : Are you proud or anxious to show off your writing?

I tend to be more anxious than proud. The things I love the most are usually the ones that get completely overlooked so it’s a little disheartening. I’m not anxious about showing off the things I think are total crap though, those ones I’ve just completely given up on by the time I post them.

Thanks!

12, 22, 32, and 42!

12 : Is your writing space clean or cluttered?

It’s a disaster. There are currently, three notebooks, a water bottle, a soda bottle, a bag of pretzels, a bag of chex mix, my wrist warmers, an incense burner and three boxes of incense on my desk right now. I’m a disaster.

22 : Has your own writing ever made you cry?

All that time. Forget-Me-Not was particularly tear jerking. My fics make me anxious too, if something anxiety inducing is happening.

32 : Do you give your side-characters extensive backstories?

Not usually. Unless they keep popping up and decide to be a big part of the fic I don’t really spend too much time on the side characters.

42 : Do critiques motivate or discourage you?

Depends. If it’s something I asked for from someone I know and trust than it’s helpful and it allows me to fix things and move forward. If I didn’t ask for it I just makes me mad. By the time I actually publish a fic I’m pretty much done with that chapter/fic and I really don’t care to have it critiqued because I’m not going to fix it. It also depends on whether or not it’s actual critique or opinions. “There’s too much description, it slows down the flow of the fic. Cut X, Y, Z” is critique. “I don’t like that X character used to date Y character” isn’t critique and means nothing to me.

Thanks!

5 and 29?

5 : Do you write better with or without deadlines?

Do I write better with deadlines? I’m honestly not sure. I know I actually write if I’m given a deadline. If I don’t have deadlines the chances that my fics will either be forgotten or there will be way too much time between updates are about 89%. But of the fics I’ve written on a deadline, I only really like one of them. So in all honestly I’m not sure. Deadlines make me write so I guess I do write better with them, considering *something* is better than nothing.

29 : Do you tend to underwrite or overwrite in a first draft?

I overwrite. I’m big on long poetic descriptions and huge chunks of time where characters just talk to each other. I have to kill my darlings quite frequently.

Thanks!

for the character thing, demon!dean :-)

Thank you!!

Why I like them: The potential for this completely amoral jerk demon is so much fun. Like, I love Dean, but I also love the straight up lack of caring. He’s all out of fucks to give and he’s kind of obnoxious about everything. I enjoyed that.
Why I don’t: Three episodes wasn’t enough! And also, I wish he was darker.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): It’s Reichenbach, actually. As much as I love demon!Dean trying to kill his brother with a hammer, I like the just utter dirt bag feel I get from him in this episode. It’s unsettling and I enjoy it.
Favorite season/movie: Season 10 for obvious reason.
Favorite line: “You call that mercy? Imagine you spend your whole life hunting down the guy that knifed your father. When you finally find him, he whips you like a dog – how do you think that feels? That kid is going to spend his whole life knowing that he had his shot and that he could’t beat me, that ain’t mercy. That’s the worst thing I could have done to him.” I love this exchange because from a certain perspective, it’s totally right. The things that sting the most are often the “almost”s in life.
Favorite outfit: Gotta love the Red Shirt of Bad Decisions
OTP: Demon!Dean/Abaddon
Brotp: Demon!Dean and Soulless!Sam.
Head Canon: If Abaddon would’ve been around they either would have hooked up or tried to kill each other. And it would’ve been glorious and gory and awful.
Unpopular opinion: I liked the idea of Demon!Dean more than I liked Demon!Dean in practice. Like, it was just a let down.I was really excited to see how bad my fave could be and I feel like there wasn’t even an attempt made.
A wish: Oh, if I could turn back time… I wish he would’ve lasted longer at least.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: I dunno, my worst case scenario (instant easy cure) already happened so…
5 words to best describe them: trash-fire, apathetic, selfish, bored, obnoxious
My nickname for them: dumpster fire demon, that trash bag, and I’m still lame and refer to him as deanmon.

Thank you!

Yet another character ask thingie – Ben Solo (or should I call him Kylo Ren???)

Asking the real questions, now, eh? To Ben or not to Ben…
Practically everyone in the movies calls him Ben now, so it’s whatever at this point.

Now let’s see how unpopular I can be.

Why I like them: Where do I start? He’s Han and Leia’s son. He’s super OP. He’s pissed off at the world. He cries a lot. He’s lonely. He’s been targeted by a space demon since before he was born and it fucking shows. His conflict is that he feels pulled towards being a good person! Like… what kind of fucking villain…???!!!!
He’s extreme. He’s brutal. He’s a murderer. He’s blunt and honest (he very rarely lies). He’s conflicted and tortured by his own mind. His past is full of crap from near death at a young age, to public humiliation via finding out Vader was his granddad, to betrayal. He should be a perfect villain.
BUT he’s lost. He’s throwing things at the wall and what sticks is what he goes with. He shows capacity for mercy and compassion in the first scene he’s in by doing nothing about Finn’s refusal to follow orders. He has the potential for light and dark. He *can* be softer, more patient, more understanding. He can be better than he initially appears. He’s layered and fascinating and he just kills.
Why I don’t: He makes awful choices. I mean, I get why he does. He’s fucked up in a ton of different ways so poor decision making is kind of a given but dammit do I suffer when he does dumb stuff.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): The hut scene in TLJ. I just love it because he only says one line “you’re not alone” and the rest of it is in his face. He looks so genuine and unsure, even to the point that his hand is shaking. You can feel the relief and the calm in that scene. And the of course the wide-eyed shock when Luke busts in. It’s a really good scene and I love that it allows him to just be compassionate.
Favorite season/movie: The Last Jedi
Favorite line: “I’m being torn apart. I want to be free of this pain.” from TFA because again, I believe this is genuine and it hurt to watch and I hate it but I think it sums up his motivations and desires really well.
Favorite outfit: That dark flowy cape, cowl, tunic, thing he had going on in TFA.
OTP: Reylo
Brotp: Ben and Finn. I think they could be good friends eventually and I want to see it so bad.
Head Canon: I think he has dreams and visions, too. I think the reason he was instantly like “What girl!” in TFA is because he’d been seeing her in his dreams and meditations for a long time and he *needed* to know who the hell she was. (It would also explain the whole “the girl I’ve heard so much about” even though… there’s like zero reason to hear anything more than “some random girl was seen with that droid we want” and why he was so fixated on finding her.) Why is also the obvious question. My headcanon is that they’re cosmically tied and have been for a lot longer than their first meeting.
Unpopular opinion: He’s not the villain. There, I said it!
He’s not the villain of the ST! Not really. He’s an anti-hero and his character arc is a redemption arc. IF he was meant to be the Big Bad he wouldn’t’ve ended his Then Let Me Be Evil moment alone, on his knees, cradling his father’s dice (symbolically representing his childhood). Emperor or no, if I am supposed to believe he’s a remorseless monster who’s finally come into his own as The Villain, he should be standing up shrouded in darkness or looking forward to evil, not with his head bowed, bathed in light.
Also, this is Star Wars. Vader got redeemed. There’s nothing you can say to me that will make me believe he’s going to die bad.
A wish: I want him to get his shit together. Just please, get your shit together, Ben. Leave the evil organization and be the person you’re being called to be.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: He just fuckin’ dies a villain, I guess. And everyone is happy about it. (Fuck that with a cactus.)
5 words to best describe them: angry, lost, conflicted, powerful, broken
My nickname for them: I called him Renjamin the other day and my brother lost it so that’s what I’ve been calling him for a while now lol.

Thanks!

Character thingys!

Soulless!sam

Why I like them: He’s scary. Like, I legit don’t want to be left alone with him because he’s scary and kind of indifferent to human life.
Why I don’t: I dunno, it’s one of those things where I like Soulless!Sam for being so wrong, you know? Like, I like him because he’s nothing like what I like about Sam, so it’s hard to say there’s anything I *don’t* like. If that makes sense? I dunno if that makes any sense.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Live Free or Twihard because that was the first time I was like “there’s something really wrong with Sam and I don’t like it at all”. He wasn’t even *that* scary it was just… that’s not Sam… that can’t be Sam. And I’m still fond of it for that reason.
Favorite season/movie: He’s only been in season 6, so… season 6!
Favorite line: That little exchange where he’s talking about Dean being abducted and he says something like “it happened half an hour ago” and then just moves on with the conversation. Like, fucking brutal man.
Favorite outfit: See this is dangerous b/c I don’t like any of Sam’s clothes and I don’t remember what he was wearing in season 6. Was he ever partially nude? Because if yes I pick that.
OTP: Souless!Sam/Godstiel. Nightmare duo.
Brotp: Souless!Sam and Demon!Dean. Another nightmare waiting to happen.
Head Canon: He puts peanut butter on the wrong side of the PB&J.
Unpopular opinion: I have no clue what counts as an unpopular opinion here. Ummm….
Soulless!Sam is the best alternate Sam.
A wish: That with-a-soul!Sam doesn’t still feel bad about what Soulless!Sam did. That’s a complicated kettle of fish but I hope he doesn’t hate himself for it.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Sam’s been without a soul the whole time muahhhahahaha! He’s been faking the past 7 seasons and he’s secretly bad this whole time!! (I shouldn’t be giving the writers ideas but it’s out there now)
5 words to best describe them: indifferent, selfish, cold, twisted, delightfully-dastardly
My nickname for them: I don’t even know why this is a question b/c I don’t do this lol.

Thanks!

Character thingy!

Just one more character ask game thing – Claire Novak

😀 My girl!

Why I like them: So much to love! She’s grumpy and she’s been let down by basically everyone in her life but she still wants to help people. She’s persistent and stubborn. She’s still girlie even though she’s basically a freelance killer lol.
Why I don’t: In line with that whole stubborn thing, I wish she’d let people care about her, dammit! I know why she doesn’t but ugh! That’s less of a “i don’t like her because” and more of a “i don’t like this about her” thing, though.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Ladies Drink Free. I like the glimpse of her as a person struggling with her own personal issues and ends with her calling Jody. It was just nice to see her as a person.
Favorite season/movie: Season 10 because we got more Claire again.
Favorite line: “Eat me, Hasselhoff” because sass.
Favorite outfit: Hair down, leather jacket from Wayward Sisters. Gorgeous!
OTP: Claire/Kaia
Brotp: Claire and Dean, honestly.
Head Canon: Claire isn’t straight. She’s so painfully not straight.
Unpopular opinion: I really like that Claire is so pissed off and ready to run. I think it reflects the reality of her life and situation. She’s had every adult in her life except Jody fail her. Her whole world got screwed over when she was a kid. She’s not really gonna be willing to sit down and listen to adults when she’s had to figure it out and make her own rules for years. I like that a lot.
A wish: I want her to feel like she has a soft place to fall and people to trust.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: She just dies for no reason and nothing is ever done with her character.
5 words to best describe them: stubborn, self-reliant, closed-off, smart ass, determined
My nickname for them: Once again, no nickname b/c I’m lame.

Thanks!
