Okay so /that/ scene. No shit when I was in the theater I turned to my brother and went “oh no, he’s hot”. Which still stands. Kylo Ren is hot and has gorgeous hair.

Also I never noticed how loud this scene was before. Their force powers make different noises and the battle and overlap as Rey and Kylo partake in a literal mental battle. It’s really neat.

Charging Starkiller Base always reminds me of that scene in Megamind where Megamind shouts “the sun is warming up?!” Tell me you can’t see Hux saying the same thing. Go ahead, but I won’t believe you.

I forgot Rey fucks up and let’s the rathtars out. So much for her never screwing up I guess lol.

Rey want to go back to Jakku for her family is so much like Han wanting to go back to Corellia for Qi’ra. Neither are where they’re meant to be, and I think Han might’ve known that about Rey.

I really love Maz. I wish there was more of her in stuff. She’s wise and comforting but what I really love is that she lays out her information and let’s everyone make their own choices. I really enjoy Maz.

And this, the Takodona battle, is where the whole film becomes completely different for me. Up until now it’s a fun action fantasy film but now there’s something else doing on that pulls it up and away from homage territory. I know a lot of folks criticize this film for being too much like a new hope (I understand but don’t agree) but here at the end of the battle, when Rey and Kylo Ren meet for the first time it changes course.

Rey doesn’t help the Resistance to dick in this movie. Her plot is separate from the R vs FO plot and doesn’t impact it in any real way until the end of TLJ.

This is, for me, where things get really interesting.

I just realized “there’s still light in him, I know it” is a callback to when Padme said the same thing about Anakin.

This opening scene is so good.

I remember sitting in the theater when Finn had his moment of disorientation and thinking “that’s what a panic attack feels like” because it’s such a great way of conveying that off-kilter feeling with the angles and hearing Finn’s breathing.

Also, I know this is bad but I will never find it not funny when Lot San Tekka says “you cannot deny the truth that is you family” and Kylo, sarcastic shit he is saying “you’re so right” before murdering him.

And then Kylo freezing that blaster blot is never not gonna be badass. (And it’s immediate undercut with “who talks first”.)

And of course, I’ll mention it everytime, Kylo and Finn just staring at each other, both knowing Finn didn’t fire and Kylo just walking away.

God I love this scene. So much happens.

It takes Rey what, like 15 minutes into the film to say anything? Do you think she just went days without saying anything to anyone?

Also the subtitles say BB-8 “moans dejectedly” when Rey tells him he can’t stay with her. Poor sad soccer ball.

Poe naming Finn feels kinda significant (esp in light of Han being named “Solo” by an Imperial). It’s interesting to me but I don’t know what to make of it.

I love how both Finn and Rey’s first reaction to seeing someone in distress is “I should help them”.

Also I enjoy the fact that Finn is very obviously lying and not good at it at all.

TIE fighters aim like I do in video games, which is to say “in the general direction of the target and pressing the fire button as fast as possible.”

Finn asks if Rey has a cute boyfriend because he wants to know if Rey’s cute boyfriend has a brother or sister.
