12) Jewelry headcanon Rey isn’t one for jewelry. She thinks it’s pretty, but she’s terrified of wearing it, forgetting about it, and getting it caught on engine parts. As such, she’ll only wear fancy ribbons or chains in her hair, and only to places she knows she’s not going to need to be practical, which is to say not very often.
Ben is a different story. He never, ever takes off his wedding ring and if that whole inherited governorship of a planet thing comes to pass, he’s not going to pass up a crown.
15) Singing headcanon Rey sings to herself very, very quietly. Most of the time she just hums but occasionally, when she thinks no one is paying attention she’ll actually sing. Ben likes to listen, and even encourage her a bit with a few the the lullabies Leia used to sing to him as a child (they’re really the only songs he can remember at this point). Neither of them ever get to the point where they’re singing a long to whatever music is playing, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t music in their household. Like everything else about the two of them together, it’s quiet, understated, and intimate.
8) Sex headcanon Sam may be very dominant in bed but he doesn’t like total and complete submission. He prefers sex to be like a game of tag where he’s the chaser and who he’s sleeping with is the runner.
18) Favorite possession headcanon Sam has a lock box full of all of his favorite and most cherished things. It’s got photos of people who’ve passed, brochures from some of the weirder motels he and Dean have stayed in, what remains of his first utility knife, ticket stubs from plays and movies Dean took him to when they were kids, and other little things. The box itself is his most prized possession.
19) Favorite photograph headcanon It’s a photo of himself, Dean, and Cas during the apocalypse. He has no idea who took it or when, but it was one moment of levity between the three of them. Dean’s laughing and Cas is smiling. They all look so much younger back then.
20) Relationship with/thoughts on _____ headcanon So Sam was actually the one who wound up orchestrating the whole relationship between himself, Dean, and Cas, though it was mostly accidental. He’d finally given up on making any headway with Dean after he came back from Hell, despite their previous dalliances and figured Dean and Cas must’ve had something based on the way they circle around each other all the damn time. Eventually he realized neither of the idiots made a move and wound up harboring a small little crush on Cas himself. After years of nothing happening and no one doing anything about it, Sam finally reached the end of his patience and told Dean that if he wasn’t going to make a move, he was gonna ask Cas out. Dean called his bluff and Sam and Cas started dating. Of course then Dean got all pouty about it and one half-drunken revelation later, the three of them found themselves in a relationship.
A little advice from someone studying extremist groups: if you’re in a social media environment where the daily ubiquitous message is that you have no hope of any kind of future and you can’t possibly achieve anything without a violent overthrow of society, you’re being radicalized, and not in the good way.
I’m Casey Fiesler, a longtime fandom community member and also a professor in the Department of Information Science at University of Colorado Boulder. This semester I am teaching a research-based class in online fandom, and we are conducting a survey that covers many different questions of interest to information science or fan studies researchers about fanfiction! We do ask that you are at least 18 years old to participate; though this is mostly for a class project, we have gone through typical ethics review at our university and this study includes a consent form.
The survey is a mix of multiple choice and open answer questions, and you can answer as much or as little as you like. On average, the survey takes about 15 or 20 minutes to complete.
We will ask for some basic demographic information (any of which you can skip), but won’t require any identifying information – unless you want to give us your email address so that you can be updated about any results from the survey.
Because of some of the research questions that groups in my class want to answer it would be particularly great to get participants who write or read in the following fandoms: Sports RPF, Overwatch, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are also questions that relate to things like fandom lifecycles, videogame fanfic, identity in fanfiction, and ethics and privacy in fandom. Many of the questions in this survey were drafted by first-time student researchers!
Whether you participate or not, please consider sharing this survey with your social networks! And if you’d like to find out more about Casey’s previous research about fandom, see these Tumblr posts: Fan Platform Use Over Time and design of Archive of Our Own.
Reblogs are appreciated, and thank you! You can email me at casey.fiesler@colorado.edu if you have any questions or comments.
We know what the inside of his quarters look like now – stark, silver edged, brutalist but luxurious. (Plus the now infamous ice blue sofa.)
“In the lines of Armitage’s face, Cardinal sees what Brendol once was, before he grew old and soft. Confidence, vitality, sureness. And yet there’s something cruel and savage in the man, something forged by Brendol himself.”
Everyone seems to use first names – it’s Armitage and Brendol, not Lt. Hux and Gen. Hux. Probably this is for ease of reading. It’s certainly not very military.
Armitage is good with children – he was the one who stepped out of the ‘who’s the biggest badass here’ awkward silence to answer a bereaved child’s question.
Armitage has a protocol droid called KayFour who used to belong to his father.
It is confirmed that Armitage is pretty damn good at reading a situation. He tells Cardinal that he connived with Phasma to kill his own father, perfectly confident that what Cardinal will do with that info is rush off and challenge Phasma – and thus be disposed of with no effort necessary on Hux’s part. And Cardinal rushes off and challenges Phasma and is flattened just as predicted.
That “I hate you, but I want your attention” thing he has with Kylo in the novelization of TFA is v similar to the “I hate you, but I want to impress you,” thing he has with his dad.
