i’ve seen multiple people talking about how mastodon has the same issue withs maps/cp as tumblr (some say worse). and it seems incredibly confusing to figure out in the first place.

To be honest, anon, I literally just opened the site on my browser so I honesty don’t know how easy or not easy it is to use. I can’t grasp twitter, so it might be tricky for me, but I can make a later post about whether or not it’s difficult for me to get the hang of. (Probably sometime tomorrow b/c it’s late and I’m about to head to bed.) 

And I really hope this doesn’t come off as rude or distrustful or anything like that, but is there anyway you could point me towards people talking about the issue you mentioned? It’s not that I don’t believe you when you say you’ve seen people talking about it, it’s that this past year has really exposed me to a lot of people calling things that aren’t actually pedophilia and CP (like ship art of adult characters) pedophilia and CP. I just want to know what they’re saying specifically. If you want you can DM me, or send another anon or submission. I won’t publish an anonymous submission, if you don’t want me to. I’m really not trying to be pedantic or a pain in the ass or anything, I just have a bit of alarm fatigue. If the site really is a hot bed for exploitation and maps then I won’t use it, but I want as much information as I can get. 

And just so you know, I genuinely appreciate you coming to me to talk to me about these concerns. I despise people who are real dangers to children and I don’t want anything to do with content that harms and exploits children, either. So I do honestly thank you for saying something.

@rosemoonweaver Yo dude, I highly recommend checking out mastodon.social. It’s basically tumblr except they actually have a staff that knows how to run a website. I just made an account so I’m still figuring everything out but it seems pretty easy once you get your account all set up.

Okay I’m definitely going to check out Mastodon. Hopefully I can get the hang of it lol.

Also as far as pillowfort goes, they’re still in beta and it’s a $5 donation to get a code for a new blog right now. Their tumblr says that once they’re open to the public the base site will be free but you can pay for a subscription for extra stuff. (No clue what the extra stuff will be yet but we’ll see I suppose.) I’ve had mine since July I believe and it’s a pretty good site so far. They’ve been very anti-harassment and anti-hate groups so I’m hoping it gets off the ground. In the meantime I’m definitely keeping options open and will follow you on mastodon

Okay so DW apparently does not have the capability to import tumblr blogs. That’s okay. I’ll be using wordpress for that (and I’ll let you know where to find me after I finish it.) 

Over the next few days I will be in the process of saving ficlets I haven’t posted to Ao3 to Ao3 and dreamwidth and (when it’s back up) pillowfort.

And just for clarity I’m not actually leaving tumblr just yet. I’m just keeping my options open.

Tumblr is apparently doing some crazy nonsense again, so it seems like a good time to remind everyone that Pillowfort.io is a new social media platform that aims to give users control of their content and how it’s seen and shared, as well as provide better communication tools to promote conversation and creativity. Reblogging this in light of the recent news, since we’ve been getting a lot of questions from people looking to join. If you’ve sent us a payment since the 16th of November you will receive your invitation email shortly after the site returns, which will likely be tomorrow! If you want to purchase more than one registration link ($5 per link, so $15 for example would get you 3 registration links) you can give them to anyone you want– the ones you purchase are not tied to your account in any way.

Now, Pillowfort will not always require a payment to sign up; we are doing this because we are still in the process of implementing our subscription plan, which will be our source of long-term revenue, and these payments through PayPal give us funding to make sure we can pay all our server expenses, employee compensation, etc. while we are still working on implementing our business plan. Once we exit beta you will be able to join the site and use all of its essential features

If you’re someone affected by the platform’s definition of what they’re going to be banning, I strongly suggest you back up your Tumblr blog. RIGHT NOW. Info on how to do that is here.

I can’t think why my own Tumblr would be affected, but I’ll be backing things up too… because in situations like this one might expect the algorithm to get a little out of hand and make mistakes that one might or might not be able to recover from. (See this article.)

For safety’s sake – because I’d very much dislike losing the content I’ve shared with other people here – I’l be embodying my Tumblr content in a new WordPress blog over the coming days. I’ll share the address here when it’s ready, for those who might be interested.

But in the meantime, seriously: friends and cousins, back yourselves up.
