I understand the sentiment behind it but I kind of hate it. Like, I tend to want to believe that there’s some kind of grand plan and all but a lot of the time the phrase “everything happens for a reason” is used when you don’t want to hear it and when you don’t need it. “Everything happens for a reason” kind of implies that there’s something to be gained or learned from even the worst experiences and I just… can’t wrap my head around that. I don’t really feel good about the idea that there’s a silver lining to everything because sometimes there’s just not. Sometimes shit happens. Sometimes we’re dealt a bad hand and given things we can’t handle on our own. It makes me unsettled.Â
