Of the characters in the fic, the author is most like Jimmy in terms of personality. That’s right, I’m a flirty, sarcastic, neurotic dweeb who likes alcoholic slurpees.
The original idea for the fic was to have Cas seduce Dean away from Jimmy in an act of revenge and then for them to all feel like absolute cocks afterward BUT @ltleflrt suggested the much softer version you see today. She suggested that Cas and Dean both see how much Jimmy cared for the other and try to step aside.
There was a scene at Amelia’s funeral where Cas and Jimmy stare at each other but don’t speak. It was almost included, but I would have had to write it two ways (to get both Cas and Jimmy’s points of view) and I didn’t want to rehash it when I could just summarize with their memories.
There was also, originally a chapter that detailed Dean and Jimmy getting together but I cut that, too.
Claire was almost completely cut out, but I thought she was cute and added some lightness to certain scenes. @samanddeaninpanties saved her, honestly.
Chuck’s injuries were my father’s injuries from his near fatal accident a few years back.
Chapter 12 has a huge Welcome to Night Vale reference in it because I’m a giant dork. It’s literally the only reason I had them in an Arby’s.
I didn’t have a title for the fic (not one I really liked) until I finished the final chapter. I was listening to Tom O’dell’s Heal and the song really resonated with the tone of the final chapter and the whole point of the fic which is – You can fuck up pretty hard sometimes, but sometimes it’s not the end of the world. Sometimes you need time. Sometimes everyone needs perspective. But no everything has to end in tragedy and some things can last. (This was something I needed to remind myself of specifically.)
There was originally going to be a subplot revolving around how much Cas and Jimmy’s family knew about what went on between the two of them but I also cut that because I didn’t care that much about it.
All of the sex scenes are written from the POV of the top. I didn’t mean for that, but that’s what happened.
