If cheesecake is cake, is Boston creme pie, pie?

Nope. Boston Creme Pie is totally cake.

So like, real honest to goodness fact on the cheesecake discourse is that it comes down to food history. Boston Creme Pie was invented at a time in which pie and cake were baked in the same pans so they were sometimes called interchangeable names. Cheesecake dates back to antiquity, was much different that it is today and the Romans called it cake.

Is cheesecake cake or pie? Depends on who you ask. Maybe it’s a tart? Like, if you want to you can talk yourself into circles based on food definitions.

Is cake a sandwich? Is a hot dog a sandwich? Is tiramisu a torte or a cake or a napoleon? Is a tart technically a pie? Can a napoleon be a cake? Is a macaroon a sandwich? Is what passes for a napoleon on Chopped actually a napoleon? Is french toast breakfast or dessert?

Like tbh I’m just being a butthead because technically cheesecake could be pie but to me there are a few reasons cheesecake is cake:
1. You never cook a pie in a spring form pan
2. There isn’t enough crust on a cheesecake for it to be a pie
3. I would never put lox on a pie (even a quiche because quiche is gross) but I would put lox on a savory cheesecake.
4. I don’t have birthday pie. I have birthday cake and I always get cheesecake on my birthday.
